Extended Schools

The very popular extended schools programme at St Anthony’s Academy is designed to allow Y5 and Y6 primary school students to attend after school clubs in St Anthony’s Academy.

The activities are designed to aid transition from primary to secondary school by allowing students to experience attending St Anthony’s Academy before they start attending St Anthony’s in Y7.  They will make friends with other primary school students at the activities, as well as meeting staff and getting to know their way around the school buildings.

The extended school activities running at the moment are Art & Craft Club on a Tuesday evening (4pm until 5pm) and Ski Club (at Silksworth Ski Slope) on a Friday evening (1 hour between 4pm and 6pm, the time varies depending on your experience level).

The Art & Craft Club allows students to take part in many activities.  Some activities the students have taken part in so far this year are tie dying aprons, making fabric bunting to decorate their bedrooms and fabric painting onto bags for life. There is a small charge for this activity which goes towards the cost of materials for the Art & Craft club.

The Ski Club allows primary students to mix with around 70 St Anthony’s Students from Year 7 to Y13, as well as several staff, at Silksworth Ski Slope, and perhaps to go on the annual Ski Club Ski trip for a week’s skiing in a resort either in Europe or America.  Ski club caters for any level of ability from total beginners to more experienced skiers and skiers are placed into groups so they are coached along with others at a similar level.  There is a charge for ski club which covers the coaching and equipment hire costs – all you need is a long sleeved top and gloves.
