St. Anthony's is an Outstanding Roman Catholic Academy for girls aged 11-18, within the Mercy tradition.  It was established in 1904 and has been delivering high quality education for young women for over a century.  St. Anthony's was judged Outstanding by OFSTED in March 2013.

We became an Academy in April 2012 and are looking forward to the completion of a number of new building projects 2012-13 to further redevelop the school site, enhancing our listed buildings and redeveloping a number of teaching areas.

The school has Specialist Technology status (since 1999) and Language status (since 2009) and is a member of the S.S.A.T (Specialist Schools and Academies Trust) Leading Edge Partnerships.  It is an active member, too, of Hexham and Newcastle R.C. Partnership.  The Academy provides an extensive range of extra curricular activities and educational visits.
